“Bye, Dad! See you at Christmas!” Albus yelled over the train whistle. His father’s face disappeared around the corner and he ducked his head back inside.

“Come on, Al, let’s find a seat.” Rose said impatiently. Albus sighed and followed her down the narrow train isle. They ducked into an empty compartment and let out sighs of relief. Suddenly the door was ripped open and a blonde haired girl fell inside.

“Phew, thank goodness I found you; I’ve been looking for you all day.” The girl said. Rose and Albus shared a bewildered glance.

“What are you talking about, I’ve never met you!” Rose said. The girl looked up and Rose shrieked.

“Olivia Lovegood is that you?”

“The one and only!” Olivia said with a grin. Rose got up and hugged her.

“Oh dear I’d completely forgotten! Liv, this is my cousin, Albus Potter. Al, this is Olivia. Her mom is our parents’ friend Luna. Remember?” Rose said flicking her eyes back and forth between her companions. Albus nodded.

“My parents speak of your mom often. How is she?” Albus asked. Olivia plopped down into her seat before answering.

“Oh she’s great! She’s working on a new story about the nearly extinct Curly-Eared Flying Lemur. Very interesting to her, I suppose, but most people just find it weird.” Olivia laughed. The compartment door was wrenched open again and a white-blonde haired boy fell in.

“Can I sit here? Some older students are chasing me around because I’m a Malfoy! Please don’t make me go out there again, they’ll curse me!” The boy screeched. Rose’s face hardened but Olivia and Albus were already nodding their approval. Olivia offered her hand politely.

“I’m Olivia Lovegood. What’s your name, young Malfoy?”

“I’m Scorpious. Go ahead laugh, it is funny.” Scorpious said gloomily. Rose giggled but Olivia and Albus remained silent.

“If you think that’s bad, try being named Albus Severus.” Albus groaned. Scorpious smiled slightly.

“Well I can tell where you got your names, Albus, but where did Rose and Olivia get theirs?” Scorpious asked.

“I’m named after the wandmaker, Ollivander. Olivia, Ollivander. My mom really liked him. They were imprisoned together when your parents got them out!” Olivia said brightly, gesturing at Rose and Albus.

“Rose?” Scorpious asked, smiling at her. Rose sniffed, trying to wound Scorpious by ignoring him. Albus rolled his eyes and spoke for her.

“You know Rosemerta? The bar maid of the Three Broomsticks? My aunt and uncle were good friends with her. They both liked the name Rosemerta, but they wanted to shorten it. So they got Rose.” Albus said with a smirk. Rose glared at him, mad that he had revealed something to Scorpious about her. The compartment was opened by the witch pushing the food trolley.

“Anything off the trolley, dears?” The witch asked. The children exchanged glances before answering.

“I’ll have 3 Chocolate Frogs, a licorice wand, and a bag of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans.” Albus said, digging galleons and sickles out of his pocket. The witch handed him his candy and moved her glance to Scorpious.

“You, dear?” Scorpious nodded.

“One Pumpkin Pasty and a Chocolate Frog, please.” Scorpious said, pushing his money toward her. The witch put the money in her patch and looked at Olivia and Rose.

“We’re splitting with him, thanks.” The girls replied. Albus passed out the Chocolate Frogs and split the licorice wand. The witch slid the door closed and it was silent except for the sounds of eating.

“So Olivia,” Scorpious said, his mouth stuffed with the Chocolate Frog, “what house do you want to be in?”  Olivia swallowed her piece of the licorice wand.

“Well, my mum was in Ravenclaw, but me dad was in Gryffindor. So I don’t know which house I’ll be in. All the houses sound great! I don’t really care; I’m just so excited that I’m actually going.” Olivia said smiling. Scorpious repeated the question to Rose and Albus.

“It’s Gryffindor for this Weasley. I mean, I know Victorie is in Ravenclaw, but I’m going to follow the family tradition.”  Rose said determinedly. She looked over at Albus, expecting him to nod along with her. Instead, Albus shrugged.

“I don’t know what house I’m going to be in. Both my parents and grandparents were in Gryffindor, but my dad just told me the Sorting Hat let him choose between Slytherin and Gryffindor.” Albus admitted, looking at the ground. They all stared at him in silence. An older student wearing a Prefect badge called, “5 minutes til arrival! If you haven’t already done so, put on your robes!” The four children were already in their robes, but Rose insisted on checking to make sure they were fixed properly.

“Al, fix your collar, it’s popping up on one side. Scorpious, your left sock is lower than your right one. Liv, don’t forget your cat!” Rose said, brushing crumbs off her shirt. Scorpious leaned over and whispered into Albus’ ear, “Is she always like this?”

“If you think she’s bad, you haven’t met my Aunt Hermione.” Albus groaned. Scorpious snickered and picked up his owl’s cage.

“Hey I have a barn owl! What kind is yours?” Albus asked. Scorpious poked his finger inside his owl’s cage.

“He’s a Great Horned Owl. His name is Snape, after my dad’s favorite professor.” Scorpious’ pale finger stroked Snape’s soft belly. He nipped his finger affectionately.

“What about your owl?” Scorpious asked, peering at the owl in Albus’ cage.

“Her name is Candle. My mum got her for me in Diagon Alley for my birthday.” Albus said, stroking Candle’s pure white face.

“Come on, guys!” Rose yelled, sliding open the compartment door. She grabbed Olivia’s hand and dragged her behind her.

“Rosie, slow down they’re not going to run out of boats.” Olivia yelled, grabbing the doorway to stop. Albus and Scorpious laughed as Rose fell backwards on top of Olivia.

“Shut up, it isn’t funny!” Rose hissed, pulling Olivia to her feet. But even Olivia was doubled over in laughter. Rose frowned at her but she kept laughing.

“Sorry, Rose, but it was pretty funny!” Olivia said between giggles. They finally stepped down from the train.

“Oi! Albus!” James yelled. The four children stopped and let him catch up to them.

“Look, good luck in sorting okay? You too, Rose.” James said. Albus opened his mouth to say thank you, but James had already disappeared, vanishing into the crowd of his friends.

“Don’t worry about it, Al. I’m sure you’ll be fine, whatever house you’re in.” A voice said from behind them. Albus and Rose turned around.

“Victorie!” Rose screeched, and she threw her arms around her cousin in a hug. Victorie smiled and patted her cousin’s head lightly. She reached out with her other hand and rested it on Albus’ shoulder.

“I have faith in you.” She whispered to her younger cousins. She kissed them both on the cheeks and ran off to join her friends.

“Who was that?” Scorpious asked, staring after the strikingly pretty red-headed girl.

“That’s our cousin, Victorie.” Rose answered. “She’s the only Weasley not to be in Gryffindor. EVER!!” Albus nodded.

“Guys, I want you to meet someone.” Olivia said, waving them over. A tall, good looking boy with short, messy brown hair stood next to Olivia.

“Guys, this is my older brother, Colin. Colin, this is Albus Potter, Rose Weasley, and Scorpious Malfoy.” Olivia said, beaming at each of them. Colin held out his hand to each of them.

“Pleased to meet you. I hope some of you end up in my house.” Colin said, smiling.

“What’s your house?” Albus asked. Colin grinned and flashed his patch.

“Hufflepuff. Apparently, I’m sweet. I don’t think I fit the shy part though.” Colin said. Olivia grinned while the others laughed. Colin looked behind the younger children, ginning as someone called his name. Colin kissed his little sisters’ cheek.

“Good luck, whatever house you end up in, little sister.” Colin whispered. He waved good bye and ran toward his friends.

“Come on, Liv. Hagrid’s calling for first years.” Rose said. Rose grabbed Albus’ hand and Olivia grabbed Scorpious’.  They made their way over to the boats.

“Blimey, Albus, you’re the splittin’ image of yur dad. And little Olivia! Ye’ could pass as yur mum’s twin! Are ya’ll doin’ alrigh’?” Hagrid said, smiling down at the group.  “Who’s tha’?” Hagrid asked, squinting down at Scorpious. Albus and Rose exchanged nervous glances but Olivia was already draping her arm around Scorpious’ shoulders.

“Hagrid, this is Scorpious Malfoy. Doesn’t he look like his dad?” Olivia said, dreamily. Scorpious flushed and Hagrid grinned back.

“I reckon you’re nothin’ like him are ye?” Hagrid said, winking down at him. Scorpious smiled shyly, nodding.

“Alrigh’ into the boats!” Hagrid instructed. Albus grabbed Olivia’s arm and pulled her into the boat next to him.

“Al, what are you doing, Rose wants to ride with me!” Olivia said, twisting to see where Rose had disappeared to. Albus patted her arm.

“I want Rose to let go of this ridiculous grudge she has against the Malfoys. I’m not that bad, am I?”Albus asked, staring into her big blue eyes. Olivia blushed and looked away.

“No, you’re fine. I just hope they don’t kill each other.” Olivia laughed, nervously. Albus smiled at her.

“Cool earrings.” Albus said, pointing at the faded red bulbs dangling from her ears.

“Oh thanks! They’re my mom from when she was my age. Supposedly, they ward off Wack-Spurts.” Olivia whispered knowingly. Albus raised his eye-brow, amused.

“What are Wack-Spu-,” Albus started to say, but he was cut off when the boat came with a gentle landing on the land. Olivia grabbed Albus’ hand and pulled him out of the boat.

“Come on Al! We don’t want Peeves dropping water balloons on us.” Olivia giggled. Rose and Scorpious were behind them, gaping up at the arches and the great gargoyles of Hogwarts. The first years were herded into a rather large clump in the hallway before the dining hall. Albus’ stomach grumbled. He wished he’d ordered more on the train. The children waited, staring anxiously at the massive wooden doors, which so many of their parents had walked through. The doors were opened, and Albus felt like he was leaving the little boy behind, and taking his first steps at being a great wizard.
